I. (Intro)

 

A. Brutus and Cassius play a very important role to contributing the events that happen in Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar.  

        

  1. Brutus and Cassius differ in a lot of ways, but for one thing, their morals are completely different

C.  Without these strong, brave men, history would not be the same

Transition:  Brutus is a supporter of the Roman republic and opposes the position of a one man dictatorship.

 

II. (body)

         A.  Brutus will do anything for his country. He believes that Caesars death with benefit Rome. When Brutus realizes Rome goes into a crisis when Caesar becomes leader, it is only sensible to kill him for the sake of Rome and its people.

                 

a) He believes strongly in government.

                           1. He is stoic, noble, and wise.

                           2. “Vexed I am of late with passions of some difference, conceptions only proper to myself, which give some soil, perhaps to my behaviors” (I.ii)         

b) He fears that Caesar will not take care of Rome

                           1. “ What means this shouting? I do fear the people choose Caesar for their king”

                  

                  c) Cassius is a Talented general. Very persuasive and manipulative. Thinks Caesar has become too powerful and must die.

                           1.Cassius dislikes the fact that Caesar has become godlike in the eyes of the Romans

                           2. “And why should Caesar be a tyrant then?” –Cassius (1,3,41)

        

 B. In this quote they are asking why should Caesar be dictator? The answer is because everyone is afraid of Caesar. Caesar rules over fear

 a) Cassius craves for attention.

                          

1. “I was born free of Caesar; so were you;” – Cassius.

2. This quote means that they are all the same, and Caesar is not much different from them.
