1. Since activities happening on the third and fourth day do not have anything to do with capacity rate. For simplicity, we only discuss process occurring on the first two days.
Day 1 Patients arriving at clinic between 1.00pm and 3:00 pm

Day 2 Patients to be operated early were awakened at 5:30 am
[pic 4]
- I choose patients as flow units since they are served through the whole process.
- Examination: surgeons who had completed their operating schedule for the day, and examination rooms.
Room: beds
Orientation: nurses
Administering Demerol: Circulating nurse, preoperating room
Administering Novocain: surgeons, operating room
2.(a)assume examination rooms have sufficient capacity, nurses have sufficient capacity, preoperating rooms have sufficient capacity
Hospital: 30 patients/day
Surgeons: for each surgeon 4 patients/day, there are 12 surgeons, so the capacity rate for surgeons as a whole is 48 patients/day
Operating rooms: For each operating room, the capacity rate is 8 patients/day, there are 5 operating rooms. Therefore, the capacity rate as a whole is 40 patients/day
Beds: each patient requires 3 nights in the hospital. Therefore, the capacity rate for bed is 30 patients/day
Overall capacity rate: 30 patients/day
(b) Utilization of resources
For a certain week, no operations are scheduled for weekends. However, patients are admitted on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
