Smart Home – Health Care Monitor
Smart stick:
Target people: the elder, the blind
Problem to be solved:
According to United Nations statistic, 1990--2020 World Population Ageing average annual rate of 2.5%. It is a serious issue about global aging nowadays, which means that people should care more about elderly. However, most of elderly’s children are too busy to take care or monitor them anywhere anytime, especially, the elder always go outside to go for a walk. Also, considering elderly suffer from amnesia and chronic diseases, it is necessary to use a kind of smart stick, which has navigation, GPS and SOS.
Function:
- Navigation: There is a GPS system installed in the stick, which connects with the Mobile APP through Bluetooth. Users just need to finish the initial settings on the APP, and then when stick users go anywhere, they can know where they are, how long they walk. Users can input their destination on the APP, and then the stick will navigate them to where they want to go by voice prompt. This stick can connect at most three mobile APP, which will help users’ family members know their location conveniently.
- Emergency: There is a SOS button in the stick. Once user presses that button, the mobile APP will receive the data and call the ambulances and polices at once. At the same time, other phones which relevant this stick will also receive warning signals.

Component:
- Stick. With the Bluetooth, all of the functions (Navigation and SOS button) are controlled by the users through the APP.
- APP. Users can associate the sticks with at most three mobile APP, which will be convenient for family members to monitor the elder’s location and help the elder to navigate and deal with the emergency.
Market Segment Description:
- Age: 65 years and over
- Occupation: The elder
Preliminary Market Estimate:
Our target age group is assumed to be from 65 years old and over. An estimation from Singapore government data shows that 459,700 is the elder. And we assuming that 10% of them need to buy the stick, thus, our target market is shown as follows:

Product Orientation:
Research has shown that the elder pays more attention to physiological needs and health. And we can conclude from Table 1 when they buy something they care more about quality and convenience. Therefore, the layout of the stick still retains the simple appearance. The model is as follows ( Picture 1).
