Cfin 890 business analysis of snapchat. Firstly, lets look at Company's history. Snapchat was created in 2011 by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy � two close friends who wanted a more fun and personal way to communicate on mobile.
Their solution was Snapchat formerly called "Pictaboo" when the app was first developed and rolled out. The name was later changed to Snapchat. The company was not a big hit with only 127 users at the end of the year 2011. But soon it started gaining popularity among school kids, and the company hit hundered thousand users by Spring 2012. Then Soon they added captions, and video to the platform and usage exploded to over 50 million Snaps viewed a day by the end of 2012.
In 2013 the team introduced Stories, Snaps threaded together to form a rolling flipbook of moments with each Snap living 24 hours before it disappears. Users and brands quickly took to this new feature and today people view Stories over 1 billion times a day.
Now, lets looks at some of the stas of the company. The graph here shows that the highest number of Snapchat users are from Age 18-24 hitting 37% mark, followed by the age groups of 25-24%. The app is very popular among young kids and teens as well, and least used by people in 50s and more. the below pie charts depicts the usage of the app across different continents. 50% of the apps users are in North America, followed by 31% in Europe, and then some small portions in remaining. Some of the facts about Snapchat is that it has between 4-6 billion views daily, and there are 100 million active users on Snap.
The next graph indicates the year over year and quarter over quarter growth of the snapchat daily users, clearly indicating the number of users rose to 160 million in Q4 2016 which is approximately double the growth in 2015, however a little less that Q3 2016 growth.
