Social and Emotional Assignment

Observation 1

Justin

9 years old

Blessed Sacrament

Justin comes into the classroom. He walks in a straight line to the back wall were he kicks his left boot into the air. The boot hits the wall and falls to the floor. He then lifts his right foot up and kicks it so his boot flies into the air and hits the wall and falls on top of his other boot. Justin jumps into the air and comes down on his left leg. He then starts to shake his right leg while it is in the air. The boy next to him AJ asks " what are you doing?" Justin answers by saying " I'm shaking my leg. My brother showed me this when we played in the snow together. It was really cool we built the biggest snowman ever." While talking to AJ, Justin put his right foot back on to the floor. Then he lifted his left leg up and started to shake it. AJ then told Justin " I don't get why you are shaking your legs. You could just take your snow pants off and shake them." " But this way is so much more fun then that" Justin said. Then he put his left leg back on the floor. He places his left hand on his right mitten and pulls until it comes off. He then takes his right hand places it on his left mitten and pulls until it comes off. Justin then bends over and places both of the mittens in his right boot. As he does this AJ pulls his hat off of his head. AJ then throws the hat on the floor in front of him. Justin stands up and says to him " why did you do that?" AJ follows by saying " your hat's ugly that's why." Justin eyebrows went up and a smile was on his face and he said " you gave me this hat last year when we went skiing and I lost my hat." AJ then says to him " I know I gave you that hat. I only did because I thought it was ugly and it still is ugly." Justin then started to laugh very loud. Then the class was told to take a bathroom break and come back in three minutes. Justin then started to unzip his jacket. He pulled his right arm out of the sleeve and then pulled his left arm out of the sleeve. He dropped the jacket to the ground and turned around and picked it up. He then placed it on the hook in front of him. After putting his jacket on the hook he started to take off his snow pants. He sat down on the floor. He unzipped the pants and then pulled his legs out of the wholes. Justine then stood up on the pants. He jumped from the snow pants to the carpet and reached over and grabbed the snow pants. He then placed the pants on the hook next to his jacket and walked out of the classroom.

Observation 2

Justin

9 years old

Blessed Sacrament

Justin was put in a group with four other students in his class. The children are sitting at a round table in the middle of the classroom. He is sitting in the chair and he has his arms folded across each other and his head on top of them. The other children are not let to the table. When they walk up to the table Justin lifted his head up and looked at them. He then raised his hand. He waited for one minute until the teacher called his name. Then he said to her " I don't know how to draw so what do I do?" She told him that he colors in the picture after they colored it or he could cut the picture out if they want to cut their picture out. Morgan that was sitting next to him said to the group " I'm not very good out drawling either." That's when Jordan said that he wanted to drawl the fish. Justine said " That's fine with me if no one else cares if you drawl. I want to cut I think that I'm a good cutter." Then he asked "who can color well?" Morgan then said

" I will color the fish in and Jordan and Sara you can drawl the fish. The children talked about what they can drawl the fish on and how big the fish should be. That's when the teacher let the children that they can use the big paper to make their pictures. Justin and his group decided that they were going to use the big paper. Jordan and Sara went and got the paper. When they left the table Justin got out of his seat and walked to his desk. He opens the top of his desk and took out a pencil box. He walked back to the table were the other children were. Then Justin said to Morgan " here are my new crayons that I just got you can use them to color the fish. They will work better then your old crayon these ones have a nice tip on it." Morgan said to him " Ok these crayons are better. New crayons always work better then old ones. I wonder why they work better." " I think it is that they are not so old and they have not been cold and hot let." Justin told her. The other two children came back to the table and started the part of the project. Justine keeps talking to Morgan while they waited for the fish to be done. That's when the teacher came over and started to talk to them. She asked what they all were going to do. Justin told
