REPRESENTATIONAL ART

Representational art is art work that deals with recognizable objects, figures, or elements in nature. Representational art depicts the appearance of things the way everyone views the certain object. The objects that representational art depicts are called subjects.

There are many different styles in representational art but the most real style is called trompe l'oeil. Trompe l'oeil is French for " fool the eye." These paintings are so unique because they look so real you want to reach out and touch them. William Michael Harnett was the artist who pioneered this form of painting. He painted still lifes of common household objects arranged in such a way that the painting was to be mistaken for the objects themselves. These objects included musical instruments, firearms, and even paper currency.

Many other artist have different styles that make their work unique. For example art by Rembrandt who is considered one of the greatest artist in European art history. Among the prominent characteristics of his work are his use of chiaroscuro, often using stark contrasts, thus drawing the viewer into the painting; his dramatic and lively scenes, devoid of any rigid formality that contemporary artists often displayed; and his ostensibly deeply felt compassion for mankind, irrespective of wealth and age. During his early years in Amsterdam (1632-1636), Rembrandt used large canvases and strong tones and depicted dramatic scenes. Rembrandt painted many portraits in this period. Other paintings had biblical and mythological scenes. Rembrandts most famous piece would have to be De Nachtwacht ( The Night Watch) and De Joodse Bruid ( The Jewish Bride) which are in a museum in the Neatherlands.

There are many different artist across the world but another that comes to mind is a Belgian painter named Rene Magritte.
