This essay will discuss three major practices that expose soil to erosion. The three major practices are overgrazing, over-cultivation, and deforestation. Furthermore, how they can be corrected will be discussed too. These are key hindrances in building an unsustainable civilization. The beneficial thing is each of these sources of erosion can be rectified to make a better sustainable civilization.

Over-cultivation occurs when the land is repetitively tilling and turning out crops more rapidly than the soil can recondition causing in a reduction in the soil value and productivity. One method that over cultivation can be rectified is by a method referred to as no-till agriculture. No- till agriculture is a method where chemicals kill weeds and the seeds are planted with no plowing to the soil. Fertilizer is one more resource of rectification in over cultivation. Fertilizer is a method in which nutrients for instance organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer are additional to the soil to nourish the crops. Organic fertilizers contain manure and inorganic fertilizer is made of chemical fertilizers. Other systems are used to counteract over cultivation for example contour strip cropping and shelterbelts. Contour strip cropping is when the farmer will plow the land across instead of up and down which lessens the event of water erosion. The lines of trees nearby the plowed land are labeled as shelterbelts lessening the hazard of wind erosion.

Overgrazing is one more cause of soil erosion. Overgrazing is wherever there are more animals surviving on a section of land than the land can support. All through the process of overgrazing the land damages its grass production and the land come to be bare causing wind and water erosion leaving the soil ruined. The Conservation Stewardship program make available facts on how farmers can burn woody plants providing them the methods to be skilled to plant grass seeds that hold water and to be adept to handle cattle and transfer them to a different portion of land preventing overgrazing on this portion of land.

The ways of eliminating trees and vegetation covering soil and altering the forest into an alternative land of use triggering erosion and soil productivity is referred to as deforestation.
