"Army-Navy Rivalry Unlike Any Other" Research and Documentation Online: Humanities 2005. Equifax 29 Nov. 2005 .
This article is about the Army and Navy college football team's rivalry. It has been going on for one hundred and five years and still going strong. Roberts uses qualitative methods on doing his research. He not only observed, but he also interviewed a large range of fans, players and coaches. Roberts' research question was mainly on how the Army-Navy rivalry has lasted so long.
He knew to interview the fans first. As we all know, the fans give the most honest answers. After speaking to a few fans, from both teams, although they had many different comments, there was one that they both had in common. It was the simple fact that both teams were fighting to win for their friends who are in Iraq. Roberts figured out that the rivalry was not only for people's entertainment, but also for the morale of the troops over in Iraq.
He also interviewed the coaches. The coaches also agree with the fans. The Army coach, Bobby Ross, told Roberts that he has received many e-mails from troops in Iraq telling him that the game is what keeps them going day after day. The coaches of both teams both understand that it is not just a game. It is a game for our country and for the people who are fighting for it.
The players also agreed with their fans and their coaches. Roberts made it clear that they were a bit more passionate about the upcoming, one hundred and sixth Army-Navy game. He could tell that the Army team was a bit more excited only because they have a good chance of winning this year. The Navy has won seven years in a row, but the Army has a better record than the Navy this year. This lets us know that it will be a great, long game this year.
