As a child growing up in the humble backdrop of a small village, I discovered my first inspiration in life. My grandfathers’ superior often visited our house and sought my help on work related calculations. He found me so proficient at it that he nicknamed me “Calculator”. This moment of very first recognition has stayed with me forever.
Since, resources in village were limited; I always challenged myself to work harder, in order to open up top class opportunities in my journey of education. Admission in the most sought after school of my town was the start of it. I was amongst the top 1% in both matriculate and 10+2. One achievement that not only changed my life, but also had an impact on the aspirations of other kids in my town was being the first student from my town to clear the IIT-JEE mains in the first attempt. I finally had the opportunity to learn and work with the best of the country, one that I created all by myself with minimal resources at disposal.
Generations younger to me in my town, started to believe in power of hard work and possibilities that awaited them. Knowingly or unknowingly, I became a mentor to hundreds of students. Though overwhelming, it taught me a lesson as to how important and satisfying it is to make everyone a part of your journey and reap benefits of your success.
IT-BHU, changed my whole perspective as to how I viewed myself in future. Where I always believed that strong academics record would be all it takes for me to be successful, I realized very quickly that there was more to ones’ journey in life. It would not only be my core strengths of academia, but also the personality traits and attitudes I built around it which would be equally important. Hence, I would be required to come out of my comfort zone and test myself in different facets of life. I got involved in sports, leading my College Chess team numerous times, my biggest experiences of team work coming my way. To hone my leadership abilities, I led “Kashi Utkarsh”, a volunteer organization for helping under-privileged children of Varanasi and surrounding areas.
Working with one of the most prestigious work places in India, NTPC Ltd., has provided me with many invaluable experiences and lessons. My job required not only technical but also project handling and management abilities. To improve on that I undertook a Project Management Course. Along with the quality of work it was important that I also stuck to deadlines. Hence, I had to learn how to manage my time better across tasks. My thinking ability and problem solving skills were recognized by my seniors. I was made part of Task Force responsible for developing the Strategy and Tactics for improving operational profitability for business. This helped me gain understanding of the cause and effects of operational parameters on business financials.
