PREFACE

Summer Training Report plays a very important and positive role in every student’s life. It is not only just a bunch of papers or sheets but it is a hard work done by the students. My STR includes about the print media. How it originated? Where it has been originated from?

In general terms it includes the complete history of our Print Media. After the chapter of complete history of the Print Media, I have discussed about the organisation (UNI) where I completed my internship. I did my internship for four weeks, that means, a complete month. In this one month, there is no doubt in saying that I learned a lot. Each day was like a new chapter in my life. I did not have any idea what is coming next for me there. It was a sheer pleasure to work with such professionals as you always learn something new each day.

And finally at the end I attached my certificate I got from the UNI organisation.

OBJECTIVE OF INTERNSHIP

As per GGSIPU norms, BJ(MC) students have to undergo practical training after the end of second semester. So for that, the students join Print Media Organisations as Interns.

The main objective of the internship was to give the in depth knowledge about the working and the set up of the print media organisation. As it was started earlier that Journalism is a field in which to enter, no formal qualification is required. Anyone can be a journalist, a commerce graduate can be a journalist and an engineer can be a journalist. But one thing, which is essential for everyone is the actual field experience.

The internship was not just concentrated on anyone aspect of the print media but the whole training schedule is made such like that, students get to know about each and every department of the print media organisation.

Students work in various print media organisations like newspapers, tabloids, etc. in the editorial department or the reporting department.

  • Work and gain knowledge of virtual media world.
  • Explore the various functional areas and analyse how theoretical concepts are applied in the complex realities of web media.
  • Analyse best ideologies incorporated in management and functioning of various elements in a web media organisation.
  • Develop skills in report writing, collection of news, working with a team uploading and managing the news to be forwarded to the editor’s desk.
  • Web media in modern terms is no more considered as ‘new media’ as medium is more than three decades old but still there are various stereotypes that are present in our society when it comes to technical and ethical aspects of this medium.

To understand such stereotypes and to learn actually of both technical and ethical aspects was my primary aim.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

I work as an ‘intern’ in close association with respected ‘in charge' of our shift in UNI.

I used to help her with following responsibilities.

  • To get training along with other interns and get to learn the basics while editing a story.
  • Edit various copies that were from Delhi as well as outside Delhi region.
  • To categorise the stories that were related to various beats of the news.
  • To transfer the stories accordingly after assigning them their numbers that were FN,SPD and FC
  • To get assigned with daily assignments.
  • To manage various sources of news.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to thank my institution ‘Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies’ for its valuable cooperation for carrying out my training in ‘UNI’. When I started working in UNI, I soon realised that UNI is an endless path where the more I will walk the more I will learn.

I learned editing, categorising and typing the stories that were from Delhi as well as outside Delhi region. It is a fast hence challenging and this process of learning was channelized by Ms.Priya, in charge of our group and is working as a permanent employee at UNI.
