Strategic Plan Overview

Every organization, whether large or small, needs a strategic plan. A strategic plan is something that identifies where the company wants to be at some point in the future and the steps that will be taken to obtain it. With Sumner United, there is no difference. Sumner United was developed in 2002 as a not for profit economic development shop. Their mission statement is to identify, coordinate and achieve shared economic and community development goals and priorities and public private organizations throughout Sumner County.

This organization is headed up by a group of leaders like top business owners and government officials that make up United Sumner's Board of Directors. The ultimate vision is to become Sumner County's first direct link to its diverse communities to become united in order to stimulate strategic economic growth and development according to a collective vision and shared plan.

Sumner United has several goals that are important to the continued growth of the organization. A few of the goals are:

* To upgrade the competitiveness in the regional, state, and national market place for new business opportunities.

* To retain and significantly expand Sumner County's primary job driver's including but not limited to manufacturers, medical technology and health industries, and corporate headquarters/regional offices.

* To increase retail expenditures in Sumner County particularly from Sumner County residents by creating more retail opportunities.

A goal is what an organization would like to obtain by a specific time. And, with any desire of being effective a goal must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and have a time table of completion. This can be obtained with an in depth assessment of the strengths, weaknesses,
