1.Executive Summary:
I started this thrilling journey on the first week of September with a pre-assignment on communication styles back then I wasn’t expecting all the invaluable knowledge that was waiting for me in the next two weeks. We were asked for this BCSS final report to be our last step toward the improvement of our communication and reflect what we learned from the two-days seminar, the group work and the satori moments. Furthermore, this report is aiming to show that by now I’m able to apply in real life situation what I grasped during the whole journey.
2.Introduction;
“The single biggest problem with communication ... is the illusion that is has taken place.” – George Bernard Shaw
We went on the 15th of September to attend our first day of the two weeks seminar with two Professionals from the NxtGen company. From the first moment it was obvious that we will have to analyse and improve my communication skills through theoretical information followed by hands-on experience and feedback. So now that the whole experience is finished I should be able to summarize all what I personally learned individually or when working with groups, considering all advices and feedback from the best communication professionals that i could’ve learned from and reflect how I can use this outcome. All , in all the following report it will be all about how was my road to become a better communicator.
3.Personal Learning Outcomes
3.1 Presentation skill:
During the seminar I realized that in the past I had poor presentation skills. From the start we had a work assignment when you should work in a group of 4 and record it each other when you are asked to say something new about yourself to your classmates. For my case I realised that I talk so fast that people can hardly understand me, I guess that I speak more than 125 words, the most words that a normal individual will understand clearly when listening, and this was due to stress. However, I managed with advices and practice to slow down and be comprehended by audiences. Another point was my body language, I wasn’t using my hand to convey a strong message as I was barely using my hand. Another point is that, even when I was speaking fast I couldn’t help but having fillers, in his case I learned that it is better to cover those fillers with a silence, but the silence should never be more than 4 seconds. Finally, and most importantly, it was my stance as apparently, I had a shy stance with my and under my belly, however with the time I managed to have the a better one and all the credit is to both my mentors.
3.2 Bad, Good, New:
As mentioned before we had one assignment when we had feedback from our classmate, and in this work we were handed form to fill about what was bad, good, and our advice for the new aspect in for a classmate presentation, for my case and as mentioned before I had a bad stance, poor language body and fast rate of speaking, on the bright side It was said to me that I make a good use of eye contacts and for the new part I was advised to use silence and follow recommended posture.
