Student Contract for Online Courses –
Be sure to read this contract carefully and then it must be “signed”, by typing in your name at the bottom along with the date and emailing it back to the instructor. EXTRA CREDIT – 10 POINTS*
- I am comfortable enough with English that I will be able to read and understand a college level textbook. Because this is an on-line course with no in-class lectures, your ability to read and understand the textbook, and on-line written material, is essential to success in the course.
- I understand that to be successful in this class, I must already possess essential technical skills such as being able to create, open, and save files with Word and to open PDF files. (CRITICAL)
- I understand that I may need to download and install certain helper applications, add-ins, or plug-ins (if they are not already installed on my computer), which will enable me to open PDF files. I understand I may also be expected to open, view, or listen to media such as video or audio files. (CRITICAL)
- I have regular access to a computer with high-speed Internet access that is properly configured to work with Blackboard, and a printer. I also have a backup plan in case problems develop with this computer. I acknowledge that Internet access is necessary to my success during the entire period of the course and that if I am without it for more than a few days, my ability to succeed in this class will be severely compromised.
- I understand that this is not a “self-paced” course and I am prepared to log in to the course a minimum of 3-4 times per week.
- I understand that work will not be accepted beyond posted deadlines except when prior arrangements have been made with the instructor. Such arrangements are solely at the discretion of the instructor under certain specific circumstances. (CRITICAL)
- I have checked to be sure that my email address is correct in Banner self-service and Blackboard (My Places) so that my instructor will be able to contact me in the event of technical issues involved Blackboard. If my email changes, I will be sure to update it in Banner Self-service.
- I regularly check my email, which would be the first line of communication with students in the event that the instructor needed to contact you outside of Blackboard. (CRITICAL)
- I will contact the instructor immediately if any problems arise. If you are struggling with any aspect of the course, or unexpected personal difficulties arise, you should always contact the course instructor immediately! The instructor wants you to succeed in the course and will make every effort to help you do so. (CRITICAL)
- I have read and will comply with the course policies, assignment schedule, and grading policies outlined in the course Syllabus and in the “Get Started” module of this course. (CRITICAL)
- I have successfully navigated the blackboard environment and have familiarized myself with the resources available for technical support, including the student online orientation, library resources, and the distance education department availability.
- I understand that I will need to utilize a compatible browser to access the blackboard online learning environment; this may involve disabling pop-up blockers and performing browser checks.
- I understand that all HCC academic policies apply to the online courses
