An organization or organisation is a social arrangement which pursues collective goals and controls its own performance, and it has a boundary separating it from its environment.WorldCom common goal is make businesses run more efficiently. WorldCom was formed to provide services to independent PR firms. It is also to provide enterprise communications services to small and global businesses. The network provides member firms with the expertise in language, culture, and customs that is necessary to compete on an internationally. Established in 1988, The WorldCom Group was formed to be the strongest, most capable independent public relations firms that could serve national, international and multi-national clients while retaining the flexibility and client-service focus inherent in independent agencies. Through The WorldCom Group clients have on-demand access to in-depth communications expertise from professionals who understand the language, culture and customs of the geographic are areas in which they operate. WorldCom services range from telephone and fax, to Frame Relay and ATM data services, to advanced solutions like IP Virtual Private Networks and Web Hosting. WorldCom investigated how it could open up its network management applications so customers could remotely access the information they need. It was discovered that the only way of doing this would be by web-enabling the applications and making them available through a private intranet.

As part of its strategy to provide leading-edge services in a new generation of digital networking, WorldCom has partnered with Nortel Networks to offer Optical Ethernet services. Metropolitan and wide area private line Ethernet services are available wherever the Clinton, Miss., carrier operates metropolitan fiber networks, currently in 84 U.S. cities and metropolitan areas. Other Ethernet services are available in select locations. Internet-dedicated Ethernet, as well as Gigabit Ethernet in co-location centers and Ethernet to establish VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections is available in New York; Chicago; Dallas; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Other locations will be added as demand warrants. The Ethernet initiative is a re-packaging of currently available services; Ethernet has grown in popularity with network managers for its malleability and cost effectiveness. Direct Ethernet connections from LANs to wide area networks permit data traffic to flow without slowing down for translation to a new network protocol. Ethernet also allows network managers to adjust the bandwidth of their connections without having to buy new equipment.
