DESCRIPTION AND COMMUNICATION OF IDEA

The idea of SWALTY is basically introducing the elements of a savoury item that is sweet and salty as complement items to potential customers. As such, the main item that will be sold through SWALTY is selling ready-made vanilla ice cream in a small tub alongside with packet salted potato chips, coming together as a set. The target market of SWALTY would be targeted at mainly children, teenagers and adults. Resources required would be a mini fridge to keep the ice-cream fresh. To avoid having the problem of paying rent, SWALTY would set up an online store for customers to place orders for parties or for individual consumption, while occasionally SWALTY would rent pushcarts around crowded areas to sell our products. Necessary contact with ice cream supplier and potato chips supplier are also required. Due to the strong influence of social media in Singapore, I could advertise SWALTY through Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter to connect and advertise about SWALTY to the followers of social media. Such advertising would be of zero charge and in addition, people would be able to know of the presence of SWALTY without having to pay extra fees for advertising. It would be an intriguing idea that will be able to catch the attention of the people. Also, the use of social media would be frequent to keep in touch with follower of social media and it is also a good platform to keep them updated about what is happening in SWALTY.

FEASIBILTY OF IDEA 

I personally think that this idea would be extremely feasible as SWALTY would be able to cater to people of all ages. It wouldn’t kill to have something sweet and salty occasionally and there is no age limit to eating food that are both sweet and salty at the same time. Like how in Singapore, it is a weird way to eat Macdonald’s fries with their vanilla ice-cream together, I was inspired from that as a child and why not I create a proposal that offers similar element to it, with the exception that salted potato chips are slightly healthier and also more convenient. Also, it is not common in market that brands sell both sweet and salty items as complement items, instead they would see sweet and salty items as separate items that do not have link to each other, for example salt and sugar. Therefore, by creating a product that offers both the sweet and salty experience, at the same time being savoury, it attracts the attention of potential customers and they will then be curious to find out how SWALTY taste like. Furthermore, a hot country like Singapore is a ideal country for SWALTY to happen as people want to cool down while being able to eat something that will fill their stomach, which is why the healthy salted chips alongside with refreshing and cooling vanilla ice cream, will be the best solution to solve it.

PROBLEMS/ISSUES INVOLVED

  • People might satisfy their cravings by purchasing Macdonalds’ fries and ice cream or mixed popcorn
  • How frequent do people eat such novelty food items?
  • Will people be attracted to the idea of eating something that is unique and new?
  • How will I package my product?
  • Will my product be sold only through pushcarts and online delivery? Or can I afford it to let it be sold off the shelf?
  • What market should I target?
  • What type of price strategy should I use?
  • How to find ice cream and potato chip suppliers?
  • What are the different type of channels that I will be utilizing to market my product?
  • If my business is successful, will it be able to last in a long run or just for awhile?
