INTRODUCTION

The 18th Air Force, Tanker Airlift Control Center (TACC), Headquarters Air Mobility Command (AMC), United States Air Force (USAF), located at Scott AFB, Illinois (20 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri), is the command’s hub for planning and directing Air Force tanker, transport and commercial aircraft operations around the world, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its purpose is to plan, schedule and track tanker, airlift and aeromedical evacuation aircraft worldwide to efficiently and effectively accomplish AMC’s Global Reach mission. Consolidation of command and control functions previously established in the numbered air forces (NAFs) and airlift divisions (ALDs) (mid-level management) was the reason for its creation. It is essentially “one-stop shopping” “bringing customers and suppliers together. Present day strength consists of approximately 600 active duty and Reserve personnel.
