Have you heard of the tribe of Indians called the Alabamas? Today we are going to learn more about this fierce group of Indians. We will cover how they used to live, why they moved west, and where and how they live today. You will find it quite interesting. Let us jump into the lives of the Alabamas.

The Alabamas lived a simple, minimalist life. They took shelter in square shaped villages consisting of houses and farm plots. These villages were usually surrounded by palisades. Men were the hunters and warriors of the tribe. Women's roles were farming, cooking, and childcare. Both men and women were storytellers, artists, musicians, and took part in medicine making. Children would help with chores around the house. During their free time, children would often play games with their friends. The Indians did what they needed to survive and didn't waste time performing unnecessary tasks.

The Alabamas happily lived in Alabama until the 18th century. They were forced to move west in order to make room for new immigrants. The Indians attempted to fight for their land but failed. The Indians were scattered. Some joined the Seminoles, a powerful tribe in Florida. Others migrated to Louisiana to live with a group of Coushattas. The remaining Indians were moved to Texas where they shared a reservation with another group of Coushattas. The joyful Alabama Indians were separated by the end of the 18th century.

The Indians who were placed in the Texas reservation now live "normal" lives. They are called the Alabama Coushatta Tribe of Texas. Most Indians live in modern day houses and apartments. These Indians now have jobs. They host traditional parties, own businesses, and much more. Indian children go to schools to get an education. The Indians enjoy their "normal" lives while keeping close traditions they hold near.
