Introduction:

In the article “The beauty paradox” author “Carlin flora” said that attractive women’s career are suffering due to too much attention from their colleagues. Attractive women were preferred for non-managerial positions but when it comes to a leader ship role they are pushed aside choosing masculinity over feminine. Author says that attractive women inspire less loyalty in co-workers than unattractive women. Even though the demand for woman workers is rising, beauty is treated as a negative trait when considering women for leadership roles. Powerful Women like Marissa Mayer’s were also publicly criticised when she tried to embrace her feminine side along with her skills and talents.

Analysis:

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to express a public opinion that beauty for a career-driven women is a no-win situation as it creates distraction for colleagues. There is not specific target audience for this topic as it relates to every working individual irrespective of one being a male or female. The author states several examples from various sources that supports the main idea, some are based on study and few are opinions. The author too supports this by writing “beauty is beastly”.

The author did not conduct any own research but wrote the article based on some research and studies conducted by Germans in 2012 on how attractiveness interferes in a women’s career. Dr. April Philips research points that less attractive women are prejudiced against attractive women. Dr. Lorri Sulpizio who coaches about body-image, is also not an exception to this. The author quotes some saying from various academic sources.
