Being a parent has its challenges from day one. We tend to stress about particularly the growth and development of our infants and toddlers, and whether or not they are on schedule. We all want the best for our children, but when it comes to childcare, what is the best option? Many would argue daycare centers and Head Start programs are the way to go, while others would choose private in-home care or nannies hands down. Prior to working as a nanny, I have worked in two daycare facilities as a K-2 and K-3 lead teacher, so it could be said I have experienced both ends of the spectrum. There are many aspects to consider when deciding to use a nanny or having your child take part in the daycare lifestyle. Three of the most important aspects to consider would be availability, your child's physical and mental needs, and your family's finances.
When there are not enough hours in the day to complete your daily tasks, and you add a child or more to the equation, you find yourself with what most would refer to as scheduling conflicts. The traditional daycare center hours of operation are from 6a.m. to 6p.m. and charge additional late fees thereafter. However, many facilities are starting to open at 5a.m. and offer after-hours care to cater to the early morning military lifestyle and those who do not work the traditional 9 to 5. Even with the current extensions in the hours of operation of daycare facilities, at times that alone still is not enough. Nannies or in-home caregivers offer a great deal of flexibility when it comes to the parents' daily schedule. To state in plain English, as the parent, you have the ability to set the hours of operation.
Another option to consider when choosing to use a daycare facility or nanny is your child's physical and mental state. Many parents find it hard enough when deciding which factor is the best for a child that does not have any physical or mental ailments, but if you do have these particular adversities to consider, here are a few helpful tips in making your decision. A nanny or in-home caregiver would be a considerable option because it allows the child to receive the undivided attention that is needed and it ensures the parent(s) a piece of mind.
