The Causes of Pumpkin Stealing
Children and teenagers have been known to do many odd things for a whole variety of reasons. Around fall time, one of the most common things to do is to go pumpkin stealing. There are many reasons why a person would steal a pumpkin, including bad parenting, peer pressure, availability and boredom. To say that a child or teenager had bad parenting may be pushing it a little bit, but maybe the parent did not want to recognize their child's wants to celebrate Halloween or simply the fall season. Many parents do not believe in this holiday and they're for refuse to buy a pumpkin to be carved and decorated. This can be very hard on a kid because it is everywhere. Holiday decorations in all the stores, Halloween parties at school, and trick-or-treating on October 31st. All of this can make a child upset at their parents and they end up rebelling by stealing the pumpkins just to have a little fun for the holiday. Another reason they might be considered bad parents is because they were not paying enough attention to their kids. Where were the parents while the child was out stealing? It is true that parents cannot have control over their children 100% of the time, however, it is not hard to keep in contact with them. It can even be argued that the parent never took the time to teach them right from wrong.
Another large cause for pumpkin stealing is peer pressure. When teenagers are all hanging out together a group, it is hard for one to say no that is not a good idea when all the others are doing it, even if they know it is not a good idea. Peer pressure is very hard to overcome. The child may want to do what their friends are doing because they want to be liked and not considered the outcast of the group. It is hard enough these days to make friends, and you do not want to lose the ones you have because of not going along with an idea, be it a good idea or not.
