• He finds other people with the same ability as him and he feels less alone.

• He was incredibly courageous because he lived in his town for very long, and stayed strong and faced his fears every day.

• When David’s home town finds out about his difference he is forced to change the way he lived for his whole childhood, and escape to the Fringes

• David still stays strong and adapts to a new culture

• David is close to his Uncle Axel, he was the only one that David could speak to freely about his thought-shaper ability. Uncle Axel helped David understand his ability, and helped him overcome it.

• He was close to his cousin Rosalind, who also had the same ability as David. They escaped their hometown together.

• David was also close to Petra, his younger sister, who also was a thought-shaper. David and Rosalind both helped little Petra to understand thought shaping, and become one of them.

• Therefore, David was a very courageous character in the Crysalids; it was not easy for David to overcome the feeling of never being accepted in his family.
