The Dole Shouldn’t Be Free
Dear Mr Rudd and whom this may concern,
I write to you as a respectable, taxpaying citizen. I wish to vice my concern as to why taxpayers money is practically being give to those who are on the dole. Among few of Mr. Howard’s proposal, I find that I do agree with the fact that people should work of the dole. “Dole workers” would be cheaper than contractors are and still achieve the same standard of work. It will be a great incentive for people to find better jobs. Perhaps even means testing for the dole is the best solution.
The average contractor earns up to 75% more money than a full time worker would. Take watering council plants for example; contractors take home $20 an hour, whilst a dole worker would only take home the stranded $270 a week. That’s a solid $500 per week saving for the government, this money would be better off using in more important matters such as curbing the recent economic inflation. Typically, council jobs are not quite glamorous and the prospect of watering plants all day or diving garbage truck would be a great incentive for people to find better jobs.
It seems that a small percentage of the dole population are just plain lazy. Moreover, this small percentile tarnishes the reputation of the rest of the populous who are genuinely trying to find a job. It is these people who are contents with their $270 a week that drag this economy down. It is only fair that they should work for their money like the rest of Australia who have to pay for them in their taxes. Better still, it should be those who do not wish to have a job that should work for the dole.
The best solution to the bludgers’ problem is to means test the dole. In addition, should anyone be found to frankly indolent they ought to be given
