The story I have chose to write about is called “The Giver”. This story was about a little boy who lived in a controlled community. In this community ever aspect for everyone’s life was controlled. Whether it was what they ate, what they could do on a daily basis, if they could reproduce, and even the way they could feel was all controlled. In the story, the people in this community were giving a daily pill to control everything. One day the boy decided to stop taking the pill and he started to completely change. From the way he acted to the way he felt was completely different now. It made him wonder about the outside world and he started to get curious. He wanted to know what it was like to live outside his “gated community”. In the end, the community granted him his job as “the giver”. I believe the moral of the story was that even a pill can’t control what someone wants to do. There’s a purpose for everyone and his was to be the giver. Being the giver meant that he could not only continue to live in this community, but that he could go outside of it also. Reading this book made me think about the lives of other people in the world and making me think that I’m very fortunate that I live in a country that strives to give everyone the right to pursue any dream they want.
This story showed me that I too can live my life and pursue anything that I want. I don’t have to live within a “gated community” that holds me back from the real world. I can go to school and pursue my psychology degree. This story about a determined little boy that wanted to make it on his own has inspired me to do the same. I might not have to do it on my own, because I have m family there to support me, however, I do feel encouraged to make it in a world that sometimes tries to stop
