This book is called The Grapes of Wrath and it was writing by John Steinbeck .Tom Joad comes home from prison after manslaughter. He comes back to a home that is on a farm and that has been deserted. His friend Murley Graves tell Tom that everyone has been taking off their land. So Tom and his family packs their stuff and travel to California, to get there life back to where it was before. The Joad family arrived in California but heard a rumor that there are no more jobs. They lived in a camp called Hooverville, that's were the poor migrates went. The Joad's meet a lot of problems as they are in California. Tom found a job laying down pipes, but he finds out that the police are trying to start a riot so that the factories could be shut down. Tom sees his friend get killed by a cop, so he decides to kill the cop himself. Now he is on the run and without a job. His family is struggling and they are moving from place to place.
Main Character
Tom Joad is the main character in this novel. He is a guy that just got out of prison after serving four years do to a manslaughter charge. As he get out and return home, he sees that his family is in trouble and he has to do something about it. Tom takes his family to California. Where he is about to face a lot of problems. It is very hard for him it find a job in California. He ends up finding a job laying down pipes, but that does not last long.
There is a big change in Tom in this novel. At the beginning of the book he was willing to do anything for his family. But towards the end of the novel it seems like his family was not first in his mind anymore to him. He goes and kills a cop. He is out hiding and leaves his family out to dry.
Theme
Family and friends is the most important theme in the book. As the Joad make the move to California they see that another family called the Wilson is having car trouble. They help the Wilson and join them on the trip to
