After watching the films Arn – The Knight Templar and Arn – The Kingdom at Road's End I was amazed by its cinematography and by the story itself. I usually watch historical films every once in a while, since I enjoys it and I really think that its very informative and that it's good for us to try to look back at our past or to look and understand other's history and culture. I can say that the story of Arn is quite similar from other films I used to watch from the same genre though this story has its own uniqueness and distinct plot twists.
I can't deny that I really did enjoyed the film. I like how they showcased the culture and history of Europeans, Swedish to be specific. And I can see their similarities to us Filipino, specially in terms of our religious beliefs. I can see their close ties with Catholic church and their church's hidden secret. Though they've commited a crime, was tremendously punished and different problems came into there life, Cecilia and Arn still continue their faith and they never lose their hope in reuniting with each other again. I can also relate in their feud against the Muslims, in our country although we are now raising awareness and promoting anti racisim we still can't deny that there are still hate against each other. But in Saladin's part where he chose not to harm Arn since Arn saved him from the past, its like our concept of having "debt of one's inner self" (utang na loob), where we value and thank the person who helped us and try to help them as well.
All in all I like the story of Arn, his heroism and bravery, his love for Cecillia, their strong faith, the diversity of culture and history. I would really recommend for others to watch.
