BOOK REVIEW: THE LONG TAIL
The Long tail is important and everyone who study business should read it, since it explains everything from Google to Kitchen Appliances and how customers would react to product launch and failures that would happen every day of outlives. It is also an essential guide of how company can control consumer behavior where everything can change with one idea only. It demonstrates three forces in the book by Chris Anderson. First Force: Democratizing the tools of production, putting everything in to one place. As Google is the giant of search engine, it provides email, calendar, photo storage, Cloud service (word, PowerPoint and excel), cell phone service, web-browser etc. All of these applications under one name, Google. This help the company brand its image as an easy to use, simple and convenient. The internet world is becoming more of information based and it seems to be data crunching every day. Having a way of simplify those steps into simple to use is the key of success in finding, locating information’s. The second of force: Cutting the costs of assumption by democratizing distribution, it helps all of the companies to find out what is the lowers cost of each activities promote by the company and reducing those cost help increase company's revenue. The last force is Connecting Supply and demand. Supply and demand are inter-related as for salesforce.com, it fits all software into one and dominated the market to date. It looks at the real-time of customer's demand and supplies them as needed to maintain low cost and high revenue. Chris Anderson also explain of, how to "create a thriving Long Tail business. First Make Everything Available. And Second Help I find it." In the 21st century, we let the customers do the work and remember company need to revolve every once in a while, where ONE distribution, product, price cannot stay forever; they would need to change every second. It need great ideas, distribution method, marketing to sell the product in a different way that can be eye-catching/candy to customers with outstanding marketing skills. Nowadays, "digital efficiencies extend every other part of our lives" . Customers are getting a lot easier to find the product they need/want and bargain for the lowest price.
