Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman, he is the only support of his family which consists of two parents and a sister. Even though he does not enjoy his work at all, he is very proud of himself for providing his family a nice apartment and a relative comfortable life. One morning, Gregor wakes up for work, but he notices something different. His body transformed. It feel like a dream-he morphed into a giant, hideous bug. Gregor has a train to catch, and he is late already. His family is very concerned, and as they are trying to get him out of the room, GregorЎЇs boss appears. With great effort, Gregor gets off the bed and opens the door to the family and the boss. They are all shocked. The boss storms out of the apartment, and that ends GregorЎЇs job and the familyЎЇs sole economic support.

To get more incomes, the family allows three boarders into their home. One night, Grete practices the violin, and one of the boarders requests for her performance, so she does. The beautiful music draws Gregor out of his room crawls slowly toward the sound source, and as he is thinking how he would send his sister to a conservatory to study violin, suddenly, a boarders sees him, and demands loudly for an explanation from Herr Samsa. Herr Samsa forces Gregor back to his room, and slams the door shut. Grete bursts out her anger toward her brother. She claims that the bug could not be Gregor himself, because he would have left long time ago knowing the troubles he is causing to the family. The family agrees. Gregor, alone in his room, hungry, and hurting from the inflammation from the lodged apple, sinks into some deep thoughts, he collapses.
