Appropriation is that altering or reworking of well-known art works such as the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo Da Vinci and "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. Although you may think its stealing or plagiarizing it's not as it is made for parody and it's supposed to capture the audience’s attention and see that it is a copy and how the picture relates to the original in any way. He also brings some humor to the painting by the title of it called LHOOQ which translates to "She has a hot ass".

The Mona Lisa parody painting by Marcel Duchamp was appropriated with just a simple moustache on her face. This makes the audience confused and think what was going on in his head as he was creating this, and why did he create this? Marcel could have been thinking of many things, he thought that he just wanted to do the painting for entertaining purposes but also to interpret the cultural relations between the original and the parody. He also changed her face to look more masculine and wants as to focus on the sexuality change of the Mona Lisa and bring the issue to our heads of is it really that bad or is it actually bad?

In the parody painting Marcel Duchamp only used a pencil to draw in the moustache and goatee in the picture, he used tone and line to create aesthetic qualities of a confused and eager viewer to know what the drawing of the moustache and goatee is supposed to mean, also use tone in the face to make it look more of a man. The materials Duchamp used was just pencil and used shades to make the face look more masculine.

The artists intention and communication of ideas and meaning is clearly represented, the title LHOOQ "She has a hot ass" ties to the image jokingly that the Mona Lisa has a hot ass. The tone of the cheeks and the drawing of the moustache and goatee make the figure look masculine changing its sexuality from originally a lady to now a man.
