The Moral Diet

1) As a human being we believe we are amazing. We create an ethics that it is OK to cheat a little bit because most of the time we are wonderful. That small cheat won’t make a larger impact in our life, so it will give us any bad feelings. This is known as “Good Person Construct”. When people start believing they are good human being and a small portion of bad work won’t make them awful person. People start to compare the percentage of good behavior and bad behavior. Most of the people believe they are more than 90% good. So, if they cheat a little it will not hurt their moral a lot. That believe leads people to cheat on a small pattern.

2) As a CPA you have to follow certain ethical standards. One of which is Integrity and according to Aristotle’s virtues trustworthiness, benevolence, altruism falls on integrity. Also Aristotle’s virtue has honesty, which is an important ethics for CPA as truthfulness. Independence is another ethics for CPA, where Aristotle’s virtue says Impartiality. CPA ethics Confidentiality is also in Aristotle’s virtue as reliability, dependability. So, we can figure out Aristotle’s virtue almost overlapping the CPA ethics. As a good human being if we can adopt the Aristotle’s virtue, we can easily follow the CPA ethics.

The six pillar of character works on multilevel filter through which to process decision. For example having one of the pillar in your character is not enough. You should go through all of the six pillar before you come up with a decision. Using one pillar as your judgement for a decision process is not enough. We also should not just use the six pillar when we try to make a decision. We should also understand our responsibility for our actions or inactions.
