The Mountain Resort
For those who like wintertime sports like skiing and snowboarding, we have just the flawless place- the isolated yet very famous mountain resort called Balea Lake. It is located at an altitude of 2,034 meters, being the uppermost mountain resort of Romania. The mountain cliffs are covered with snow from November till end July, from time to time still continuing till the next winter arrives. Firstly, you have to reach Balea Falls, and only after that try to get to the lake. Late spring is the finest time to come- you take the central road and you’re saddened because you see no indication of snow and you think you have come such a lengthy way for nothing. But you have to keep driving, hopeful to find that delightful place where you can ski or snowboard in T-shirt only, without thinking you’ll catch another cold and hoping to meet some of the friends you haven’t met for the past month or more. The road makes a large turn and unexpectedly you see what you’ve been waiting for; the giant mountains are still snowcapped. So everybody is happy and restless to finally arrive up there. The area is eccentric for the best skiers and boarders and it promises outstanding routes for free ride. The resort has only two cabins, each one positioned on one side of the lake. There are many tow-days competitions taking place here. The contestants are from many different nations and they come here to have enjoyable time and do what they like and know best; thrilling ski and snowboard. Snowboard is comparatively a new exciting sport in Romania, but there now are many kids who take training for it. Parties where everybody is having a decent time and making a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, one would say precise to this place follow the competitions. The party continues till late in the night, when a quiet and peaceful silence hugs the mountains. But the silence doesn’t last too long. Exhausted, but awakened by the lukewarm waves of sun, the riders start the new day with some tricks and jumps on the quarter pipe taking lead of the snow as much as conceivable. This is the place where my folks and I spent a great deal of our relaxation time. The environment is very warming and friendly. The peacefulness and brilliance of the mountains helps me unwind and promises me the chance of fleeing the everyday monotonous work and problems by doing what I love, snowboarding.
