The Future President?
Barack Hussein Obama should be the next president because he is the best choice for America to create a new generation of leaders and get us away from the politics where only the rich and privileged have a voice. As the junior U.S. senator from Illinois, he is also the fifth African American Senator in the U.S. history and the only African American currently serving in the U.S. Senate.
He was born to a white mother and Black Kenyan father in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. He grew up in a mixed-race culture. As a kid, he lived in the majority- minority U.S. state of Hawaii. he constantly struggled in life trying to out figure who he was and what his life was about. His parents eventually divorced and he ended up living with his maternal grandparents. Although struggling with his race, Barack was a very bright student who excelled academically. A Graduate of Columbia University with a BA in Political Science and graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude in 1991.
" Democrats, who generally favor liberal immigration laws, face pressure from blue collar and labor workers who think illegal immigrants are a threat"(Helling, David)Barack has played a leading role in crafting comprehensive immigration reform. He believes the immigration issue has been taken advantage by politicians to divide the nation rather than find real solutions. This causing disagreement has allowed the illegal immigration problem to worsen, with borders that are less secure than ever and an economy that depends on millions of workers living in the shadows. He thinks that our broken immigration system can only be fixed by putting politics aside and offering a complete solution that secures our border, enforces our laws. " he has been a strong supporter of efforts to increase funding and support for local law enforcement."(Obama, Barack).He supports additional personnel, infrastructure, and technology on the border and at our ports of entry, He also believes immigrant workers should have legal protections to avoid abuse and downward pressure on American wages and working conditions. He also realizes the need to increase the number of people we allow into the country legally to a level that keeps families together and meets the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.
Obama's first piece of legislation in Washington aims to make college more affordable for students and closes a "loophole" for banks and lenders making education loans. expand early childhood education, reduce high school dropout rates and improve substandard schools in poor areas. He also proposed an $18-billion increase in federal education programs, accusing Democratic presidential rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards of shortchanging public schools.
" Health care has emerged as a major issue of substance between Obama and Clinton."(Fouhy, Betty) Barack Obama believes we live in the greatest country in the world but when it comes to health care, America needs to do better. According to studies, nearly 45 million Americans lack health insurance. Health insurance premiums have risen four times faster than wages over the past six years. About 100,000 Americans die from medical errors in hospitals every year. Obama will create a new national health plan to allow individuals without access to affordable insurance coverage to buy coverage similar to that available to members of Congress. His plan on health care will save a typical American family up to $2,500 every year on premiums. Also he will Modernize the U.S. health care system to contain spiraling health care
