The Night Shift
We humans are accustomed to sleeping through the night, waking up energized, and ready for both school and/or work. By working the night shift we are going against our body’s natural habits causing us to suffer the consequences. We become more vulnerable to diseases and experience longer healing time. It also cause us to gain more weight or in some cases become obese and catch diabetes. It may also cause those who attend school/college to do poorly in or cost them their grade.
By going against our body’s natural habits we don’t get the amount of sleep or rest needed. This causes us to be restless and tired throughout the day. This could also lead to a tragedy such as a car accident. It also prevents us from functioning properly and getting things done correctly. Sometimes we may even fall asleep on the job.
Catching a disease or cold as we all know could be a terrible experience. It causes us to be drained and more restless. However, catching a cold while working night shift could be a very tough experience. Plenty of rest is needed to overcome a cold and by not getting enough sleep or rest could cause the cold to last longer than usual. Medication is also a necessity in order to overcome a cold, however, taking medication on the job should be avoided as it causes drowsiness and in some cases even lead to sleeping on the job. With not enough rest and/or medication one could be stuck with a cold for a very long time.
Attending school or college could be very tough as it is. Students are faced with many challenges and difficulties throughout the semesters. However, working night shift while attending school makes it tougher as the student is faced with restlessness and insufficient time for studies and homework. Due to insufficient sleep a student may fall asleep during lectures and note-taking. This causes the student to fail many assignments, quizzes, tests, or exams which then results in a failing grade.
