Parents should not send their children to private school
When the children grow old enough to go to school, parents often face a dilemma that whether to choose the public school or the private school. In China, the statistics shows that 85.3% of the parents send their children to the public school, and only 13.2% of them prefer the private school. And if I were a parent, I would be among the majority, and send my children to the public school, because there are three disadvantages of private school relative to the public school.
The first and the most obvious disadvantage is the higher expense. Due to lack of the appropriate funds of government, the private school needs to charge higher tuition and additional school-founding fee to keep the school going. Take the Jinghua elementary school which is a private school in Beijing for example. Parents should pay Ј¤30,000 school-founding fee when the children first enter the school, and Ј¤14,000 tuition per year. However, in a public elementary school, the average tuition is Ј¤980 per year and no additional fee. So there is a big gap between them, and for the parents who are not so rich, the private school is not a rational choice.
Maybe some parents will say that although the private school is a bit expensive, it offers better education because the private school usually has fewer students in every class and better living and studying environment than the public school, and the children can get more attention from the teachers, and their potentials can be well developed. But this is just one hand of the fact; on the other hand, the private school often excessively goes along with the wishes of parents to develop the childrenЎЇs specialty, and as a result of that, the children often lack full development and firm basic knowledge. In China, a number of private schools have the international programs with the foreign schools, and the students are expected to take the programs to go abroad. So beginning from the elementary schools, English lessons usually account for much time, and English is considered as the basic teaching language in most private schools. Thus, the other important lessons such as Chinese, math are overlooked to some extents, which will be harmful to the childrenЎЇs future development.
