The Pro-blem Is Being Pro-life
In the First Amendment of the Constitution, it clearly and concisely states that the citizens of America have freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion. Freedom of speech implies that the people of the U.S. are allowed to express themselves regardless if it's verbal, non-verbal, visual, or symbolic. Abortion is an issue today that gives women the opportunity to freely express themselves and make their own decisions.
Many individuals believe that women should be allowed to make their own choice if they have the option to abort. This group is known as being pro-choice. People who are pro-choice feel that women are entitled to do what they want with their bodies.
Some people feel that abortion should be illegal and that if the woman truly didn't or couldn't have the child then she should give it up for adoption. Citizens who are pro-choice disagree with this. If the woman couldn't get an abortion, the child would probably end up in foster care.
Statistics show that in 2005, there were about 799,000 children in foster care in the United States and only 51,000 of them became adopted. This shows that only 6% of all the children in foster care are adopted. The children who aren't adopted become problems in the society and are a tax burden.
In conclusion, people who are pro-choice believe that women are capable of making their own decisions and that they have a right to. People who want abortion to be illegal feel differently about this. They feel that women shouldn't be able to decide for themselves; basically taking away their freedom of speech. Both groups have good support for their views but the one that gives you your rights and freedom is being pro-choice.
