The United States of America is divided amongst many different regions. Some of those regions include the Southwest, Northeast, Northwest, Midwest and so on. Throughout these regions, they all inhabit different climates, historical backgrounds, sports, and cultural views. For example, someone from the Northeast region may encounter a climate of hot and dry in the spring or summer months, and mild with a little rain and snow in the winter months. There are many areas within the Northeastern region that experience the same climate, but the only difference is the temperature may either increase or decrease, depending on where you are located. On the other hand, someone from the Southeast region may find that it is hot and dry during the summer but mild in the winter. The precipitation in this region is generally moderate, with an adequate amount of snow in the winter months.
There are many regions throughout the United States, and each region is known for their own thing. Every region involves a sport to some extent. Whether it be at a professional, or lower level, there are sports worldwide. According to Amy Henderson (2010), “with legendary teams and rivalries in all four sports it's no wonder that this region is a hotbed for the traditional. For teams that call the Northeast home, there are over 110 championship titles within the NFL, NBA, NHL & Major League Baseball.” The Northeastern region, as previously stated is known for their sports, also known as, “The Big Four”. Sports have been and will most likely continue rising due to the excitement it brings people. Most seem to enjoy the rivalry between areas of each sport.
The Northeast region includes multiple states ranging from Virginia, to Northern Maine, and even to the Atlantic Ocean. Some other areas within this region are, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. According to the United States Geological Survey (2004), “the region is home to more than 167,000,000 people or about 60 percent of the Nation’s total population” (p. 1). Within that population comes a variety of cultures, and people such as, Native Americans, Asians, Chinese, Muslims, etc. When it comes to the people in this region, everyone dresses and acts differently. People have different cultural backgrounds, and when you have groups of people together who are not the same, it may cause complications. For instance, Muslim women wear a Burqaa or Ridaa. This is specifically designed so that nothing except the hands, face and feet are visible to others. A Caucasian individual may dislike that because he/she does not particularly agree with the cultural background of Muslims. There are numerous stereotypes about different races due to how they are viewed in the media. Not everyone is who they are identified to be. To “fit in” in certain regions, you would have to dress and act the same as the people who already live in said regions, which is difficult considering everyone is brought up differently.
