The Weeping Woman by Pablo Picasso depicts a portrait of a woman who is struggling with an internal conflict while attempting to keep up her cheerful, outward demeanor. The cheerful, outward demeanor is shown through the various, bright colors shown on the woman’s hair, hat and outline of her face. Yet, in the midst of the colors, the woman’s interior is filled with harsh lines and limited color. With the absence of curved lines and bright colors, the interior of the woman’s body seems cold, lifeless and distraught. Picasso shows how women are faced with the task of upholding a seemingly colorful and uplifting appearance, while burying an emptiness deep inside oneself.
I feel that this piece of art is Picasso’s depiction of a post modern worldview. Picasso is portraying a feeling of emptiness in the midst of a busy world. Postmodernism is characterized by its removal from a reality whose absence is not even felt. This painting is showing the chaos of everyday life, along with the emptiness that comes with everyday life.
The Last Judgement, which is painted in the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City Last Judgement by Michelangelo, depicts Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and the second coming of Christ.
This painting relays Michelangelo’s assumption of what the second coming of Christ will look like. The Last Judgement, in the eyes Michelangelo, the deceased believers will ascend into heaven with Jesus Christ. However, the Last Judgement appears to have all of the Lord’s angels, along with God, judging those ascending to heaven. What believers know from the Bible is that we will stand before God alone for judgement.
The Last Judgment can be seen through a Christian worldview. A Christian worldview is characterized as good art, true art, beautiful art and glorious art.
