Analysis: What conclusion can you draw due to the way the story was opened?

Possible Answer: I can infer that the hurricane is going to be a very important idol throughout the story because of the massive detail the author went into about it. It even has its own chapter, and not just any chapter, the introduction. Therefore I can assume that it is going to be important factor in the story.

Possible Answer: The main idea as far as I read, would be that the town of Green Cove Springs and its citizens are majority black, or African American. Because of this fact, the people have certain standards of which they expect all people to live by. If you do not, you shall be punished at the town's discretion.
Application: How would you use imagery to heighten the readers visual aspect of this chapter?
Page: (Hurston, 11-13)
Possible Answer: If I wrote this story I would use a few more examples imagery so that the reader would not only be able to get a better feel of the town of Eatonville, but also to allow the reader to feel the tension in the air and therefore be able to forebode the tragedies that were soon to come.
Analysis: How is the main idea of this book related to the time period it was written in?
Page: (Hurston, 9-19)
Possible Answer: I believe this book was written in direct relation to the time period, which was in the late 1800s. This was a time when religion was law and while this remains untrue in today's society, it was all to true for those convicted.
Synthesis: What would happen if this chapter was left out of Their Eyes Were Watching God?
Page: (Hurston, 18-19)
Possible Answer: If this chapter was to be left out in the process of writing this book, readers such as myself would have a lack of background information needed to comprehend the main ideas the story portrays. Things such as the reason for sins and other things would be left out as well.
