Three – Ways and Burgers

        Carls Jr has been notable for their scndalous commercials that showcase half naked models eating greasy and fatty burgers. In the commercial for the new “Bacon Three – Way Burger,” Carls Jr titled the advertisement “Fantasty.” The commercial displays 3 white,  attractive females in bikiniʻs that have been oiled. The models are in a kitchen as they all chow down on the Bacon Three – Way burger while the background music repeats “We havin us a threesome. “At the end of the commercial, the blonde girl in the middle says “yeah, yeah…I know what you’re thinking, but it’s called the bacon three – way burger…what would you expect?” This commercial uses hot women and sexual images to advertise the “Bacon Three – Way Burger.” It is very degrading to females because it is as if women are “expected” to be a sexual object and must conform to men in order to be relevant in society.

        The medium that is used is a television commercial. In using a commercial, Carls Jr was able to reach audiences worldwide. Carls Jr does indeed have a long history of airing sexually appealing commercials in the past. Carl Jr releases commercials such as these due to their target audiences being between 18 – 35 years old. They believed in the theory that “Sex Sells” and it has worked for them recently since 2005 when their first scandalous commercial was released to the public. With these commercials being aired internationally, it has grabbed the attention younger males and has sky – rocketed their business, but this great success has also caused an uproar in middle – aged mothers that stand for women rights and equality.

        The intended audience for this television advertisement is younger men between the ages of 18 – 35 years old. This piece automatically assumes that it’s audience understands what a three – some is. The writers of the commercial assume that the intended audience understands the sexual innuendo and flirtatious look of the pretty females. This piece was originally presented as a super bowl TV advertisement but it because so popular that it aired on regular TV channels. Although the intended audiences are men between the ages of 18 – 35, these young, pretty females are appealing to younger or older people watching the commercial. These commercials have sparked an uproar in people who support equality among women. People who believe women are nothing but objects for others to look at and sexually view them are the motivation behind this movement for equality. They believe they are degraded in television and social media and have took to online blogs in order to get their opinions on the internet.
