TOBACCO KILLS
Eating tobacco is like committing suicide. It is very dangerous, not only for our health, but also for our surroundings.
Tobacco and substances containing it, like ‘gutka’ (a combination of tobacco, betel or areca nut) and other substances consumed orally, is a dangerous addiction. It causes cancer which often leads to a person’s death.
There are approximately 12 lakh cases of tobacco related cancer cases in India every year, of which chewing tobacco accounts for about 7.5 lakh deaths. It often causes Oral Sub mucous Fibrosis (OSF), loss of the sensation of taste, stained teeth, cardiovascular diseases and asthma.
Chewing tobacco has been banned in most Indian states.
Believe it or not, ‘gutka’ even corrodes metal! Kolkata’s most famous landmark, ‘Howrah Bridge’ is under attack from gutka – chewers. Saliva laced with thick layers of ‘gutka – deposits’ on the covers of hanger bases on either sides of the bridge has caused it to corrode as indicated by the chemical tests – the corrosion having been caused by chemicals in ‘gutka’.
Oral cancers are primarily caused by chewing tobacco.
Lung cancer and some other cancers are also caused by smoking tobacco in bidis and cigarettes. Some heart – related diseases are also brought by smoking. Liver cirrhosis is caused by tobacco, alcohol and other substances abuse.
Tobacco is becoming very common even in youth which is a serious matter to be looked upon by parents and guardians as it harms one's health leading to various problems in the body as discussed before.
"Stop eating tobacco before it starts eating you."
