1.1 Report Aims & Scope

The primary aim of the report is to develop a suitable information system for management and customers of Garbett Tours. The report will also address the changing external environment, external drivers enforcing changes in tourism industry, uses and impact of internet technology on all stakeholders and the key issues that are linked to system development. The scope of study is limited to the tasks highlighted above.

1.2 Changing External Environment

A business cannot operate in isolation because it needs to know what is happening within its vicinity. Changes in external environment will affect the functions of a business and also the strategies. The main factors that are responsible for changes in the external factors are:

пÑ"ј Political: Changes in government policies can affect a business. For instance, Increase or decrease in national minimum wage

пÑ"ј Economic: A booming economy or recessive economy are one of the changes in the external environment, also government spending, interest rater, exchange rate and many more

пÑ"ј Social: People's taste, preferences and way of life are far changing in today's world

пÑ"ј Technological: This factor is changing rapidly and it affects everyday life and businesses. High-Tech gadgets are becoming obsolete day by day

пÑ"ј Legal: There is need to abide by the rules and regulations guiding a business, also new industry standards for goods and services.

пÑ"ј Climate: Recent changes in climate such as global warming have prompted new laws and policies to be made to prevent high carbon emission.

1.3 Method of Enquiry

Having given the option to choose the method of enquiry to employ in regards to this research work, the researcher decided to employ dialectic enquiry after careful analysis of other forms of enquiry such as the inductive-consensual, analytical, multiple realities and unbounded thinking enquiry system. Dialectic enquiry system is mostly used because it scrutinizes gravely into matters and also operates as a more realistic decision making tool. However, there could be flaws in the dialectic enquiry system because commonly held opinions by the researcher could be biased which will definitely affect the result of the subject matter, also objective solution, compromise or synthesis might not be reached.

He also emphasized that changing patterns of leisure time are changing the industry and the predictions of a leisured society from the sociologist of the 1960's have not come to past because the fear of job security means that leisure time is squeezed and workers do not take their full entitlement as the distinction between work and leisure time blurs.

Urbanization has also influenced changes in the industry to considerable amount, with more consumers in the urban city with huge purchasing power wanting to get out of the busy everyday life by going on holiday to less remote and rural areas. The advent of constant break-through in the medical field has increased the average life span of human beings creating an ageing population in today's society thereby creating a niche for it in the industry. It's also pertinent to note that with the world becoming a global village, people tend to learn and understand each others culture and tradition through communication technology which results in trans-continental travel irrespective of their social and cultural background.

The level of education of a society also plays an important role to the tourism sector, there is always an urge for the highly educated members of the society to be more adventurous after learning about different cultures of the world at school and fantasizing about all kinds of holidays from reading educational books like Gulliver Travels, also the social/economic background of
