Introduction
Transport for London (TfL) is the government body responsible for all types of transport in London. Mr. Mike Brown was appointed Commissioner in September 2015 overseeing the largest integrated Transport Authority in the world. Now, as London's Transport Commissioner, Mr. Brown is ultimately responsible for a multi-million pound investment programme and the delivery of transport services across London, with some 13 million passenger journeys every day.
Leadership Element
Mr. Brown knows he has faced a difficult task when he take his job just two months only as commissioner of Transport for London, cuts in the government’s Spending Review have left a £2.8billion hole in its business plan for the next five years. The cuts in its funding come as London’s population is growing quickly; it is expected to hit 10 million in 2030, up from 8.6 million. Last year records for the busiest day on the Tube were broken several times, most recently on December 4 when there were 4.82m journeys. The funding hole could be bigger — a London Assembly committee estimated it at £4billion over five years because of a signalling contract running over budget.
Besides, Mr. Brown also has to face the tube strike that happened on 8th July 2015, Wednesday. It was called after London Underground (LU) and unions failed to agree a deal over pay and new night-time services. London could face the most widespread tube disruption for more than a decade after drivers voted overwhelmingly to strike over TfL plans to force through night shifts for no extra pay.
