Troy An Epic?

Due to the fact that I'm a huge admirer of Homers Iliad, I thought that the movie Troy wouldn't be to my liking. I have always had this theory that movies ruin great writings by excluding a lot of parts from the actual writings and not being quite as accurate as they ought to be, but after watching the actual movie I beg to differ. While not being utterly historically accurate, the movie was strikingly an excellent non-accurate account of the actual story.
Initially, the movie had attracted a massive crowd before its completion. The producers were fortunate enough to have acquired a crew of the most sought after actors including Eric Bana staring as Hector, Orlando Bloom as Paris, and Brad Pitt as Achilles. The fact that the advertisement for the movie itself was released a year before its completion played a great part in the movies huge success.
Another thing that associated with the movies success was the fact that the story was a well known and greatly admired one. The movie was an adventure, romance, drama, and action all in one, thus attracting a variety of viewers.
A lot of people criticized the movie for historical inaccuracies; many believed that the movie wasn't intended to be an exact Historical account of Homers actual story, opinions varied on this subject. Many believed that the movie missed out on the whole point of the Trojan War, as it neglected the gods and goddesses that played a great part in Homers Iliad. Not only did the movie change a lot of the initial story like Menelaus's death and the fact that Hectors wife and son were actually thrown from the walls and killed, but also it didn't provide the audience with some key background information such as the reason of Achilles death which was because his mother dipped him in the immortal pool as a baby but didn't dip his ankle- hence when Paris shot his ankle he died.
