        Do you remember how you felt when you gained your first friend? For most of us, this is a monumental moment that can shape how we move forward in social development for years. Once you made the friend, can you recall the innate feeling of connectivity that just felt so right? As children, we latch on to the environment around us. As humans, we seek a natural connection. Through that connection, we form countless friendships and relationships that last a life time, or even a day. With that lens, I view social media as a conduit for replicating that feeling in some way or another repeatedly.

         How else can we explain our obsession with our friend counts?  Or, the other obsession with follower counts? The drug of social media is the biggest marketing scheme that no one could have ever predicted. Also, it's a business model that will always fuel itself. More specifically, Facebook and Twitter have revolutionized social constructs of our generation. Whether you are airing your thoughts and observations for the public to read or sharing an interesting video that you felt needed to be seen, you are feeding that natural urge for connection.

        Social media has tapped into the most basic and primal of instincts which allowed our ancestors to survive. The social model of facebook and twitter are not only admirable but representative of the evolutionary markers that are present in our personality today.
