In the history, typhoon Yolanda is considered as one of the strongest typhoon in the world and has a great casualties. The typhoon is said the most destructive typhoon so far in the Philippines. It is also a calamity that people never expect especially the taclobanons. They never knew a high storm surge will going to destruct and kill a thousand of life in their community.
A storm surge is a coastal or tsunami like phenomenon of rising of water commonly associated with low pressure weather like tropical storm. Most casualties during tropical storms occur as the result of storm surges. In the Philippines, warning about storm surge is not that important but because of what happened in Tacloban, media now warn the level of storm surge when there comes a typhoon.
Storm surge in Tacloban is unexpected one. People took it for granted for they have conquered and survived strong typhoons before. Media also fail to warn people in that rising of water that flooded the whole community. Even before Tacloban is a flooded area because of its low elevation.
It is said typhoon Yolanda is just an experiment of scientist but I think its more likely a cause of a climate change. Earth now is destructed. Nature is devastated. I think these were just a reason why natural phenomenon become stronger and more destructive. Its us and our actions towards nature who made it.
Im hoping that the destructive typhoon Yolanda will make us realize that its not yet time. We can still save our nature. I know that after that catastrophy, we have learned something. Let us put our love of nature into action. Its time to change.
