One of the first environmental difficulties I think presents a problem for Green River is that they have the union. They will have to go through the union for any kinds of changes being made that affect the employees. Even though Ken Dailey thinks that he will receive their support and that is a problem. He thinks they will go along but he does not know for sure. This is a social force that could give him problems with terms relating to remuneration and promotions. Any change made will become something for the union to scrutinize. This to me would be the most difficult force to manage. This could cause the culture of the company to become upset or rebellious. This in turn would cause the environment of the plant to change. It would affect the way the employee's work and could cause attitudes to arise. This is the totally opposite of what Green River wants to happen. It would cause problems with making teams or groups that get along like they do at Aberdeen.
The next problem I see that could happen is with the customers. They have many customers spread out. Ken Dailey will have to take into account how the customers may feel about the changes in the company. He would have to take into account how the company can make changes in the product specifications, and changing the production process so that the customers will not have to worry about getting their products. He will need to explain the new work teams to the customers. They will need to feel that these changes will not affect their shipments of the products they get for Green River.
The next problem I feel could be an environmental problem in the Green River plant is the communication about the changes that will be taking place. If the plan is not communicated to the employees in away they all understand then you can start a negative affect in the company. This could come from people who do not like change or from the
