Not So Worth It
Unprotected sex seems like the norm for many college, and even high school students across the nation. Although many of these students are protecting themselves by using contraceptives such as condoms and birth control pills, on the other hand, many are not. Instead of worrying about protecting themselves, some students are more focused on having fun and feeling good for a few minutes, versus having to deal with a lifetime of negative effects once its all over. They are more concerned with immediate satisfaction instead of taking all of five seconds to "wrap it up" and put on a condom to protect themselves. It seems like even though these individuals know that having unprotected sex can have frightful repercussions, that isn't a mere thought in their minds at the time. Having unprotected sexual relations can result in negative effects on both parties involved, such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), unexpected pregnancies, and emotional/mental instability. High school and college students should take precautionary procedures and protect themselves every time they take part in any type of sexual activity.
Not using protection during sexual intercourse can result in getting a sexually transmitted disease, also known as an STD. STDs are infectious diseases that spread from person to person through intimate contact. They can effect men and women of all different ages, races, and economic classes who are sexually active; in other words STDs do not discriminate. Some STDs can be treated with medications such as creams and

pills, while others are untreatable and incurable by any means. Because many of these STDs do not have symptoms at all, many people are unaware that they even have them, making it even more likely for them to pass it onto another. As a result of not knowing about being affected with an STD, the infection is more than likely go untreated, leading to the possibility of causing permanent damage, such as infertility and even death. Some well known STDs include that of Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Hepatitis, Genital Warts, Genital Herpes, and Pubic Lice (also known as Crabs). In particular, HIV/AIDS is one of the most popular and more serious STDs that many are familiar with. HIV/AIDS is a condition that attacks the immune system which hinders the infected individual from fighting infection in the body, and it is also one of the most serious and deadly diseases known to man. While the thought of getting an STD is ever present, many still do not protect themselves and continue to live with the mentality that it cannot happen to them. All of this can easily be prevented if the necessary precautions are taken, such as using a condom during oral, vaginal, or anal sexual intercourse.
In addition to getting a STD from unprotected sex, an unexpected pregnancy can also occur if not careful. Instead of using condoms as a means of birth control, many individuals use the "pull out" method, meaning that the male individual involved will try his best to pull out of the female before he ejaculates inside of her. This method of birth control is readily used by students everywhere and is not as effective as they would probably hope for it to be. But if the "pull out" method does not work and the female does become pregnant, she can always go out and purchase the "morning after pill" also known as Plan B. This pill aborts the baby as early as one or two days after conception. However

if the female is too far along with the baby to use the morning after pill, an abortion seems to be the next option for many individuals. It seems to be that instead of using condoms, more and more teens are using
