Veterans

We first decided to go to the Veterans Day parade. I was able to gain multiple interviews at this and gain valuable insight into the situation that caused veterans to be homeless. This isn't exactly what I wanted. I wanted people's stories, stories of the people who had been through so much, not just someone else's opinion of why it happened.. I desperately wanted stories like the one I had gotten from Henry. Those were the stories that needed to be out there. My first idea was to go to the American Legion Bar. My theory was that if anyone would know who to get in touch with it would be a bartender, since I have heard countless stories of how bar tenders are always being told peoples whole life stories. I emailed thirty-seven various legislatures and people involved with veterans welfare and posted notices on blogs, asking for help with the project and prayed that I would hear back from one of them. I got little positive response from these emails. I was mainly told that they didn't think they would be helpful person to interview. I was even sent one rather nasty email that said that vets did not face problems on returning and any homeless person who said they were a vet was lying. It was around this time that my film partner quit the project, saying that there was no way we would ever get the interviews we needed. I am not one to give up even when something seems impossible. I decided to give it one more shot despite the fact that I know longer had a film person, so I was going to have to lug all my equipment by myself, film and interview at the same time. If I was going to get this done, using normal approaches wasn't going to work. I remembered from working in a soup kitchen, how strongly networked homeless people were with each other.
