This article is about an 11yr old girl from Cleveland, Texas who was raped by 18 men and teenage boys. She was forced for months to have sex with these men and if she didn’t comply with the orders she would be beat. I found multiple articles but this struck me the most. I can’t believe how many men and teenagers participated in this horrendous act knowing it’s wrong. How can we live in a society where we see something that horrible and not say anything? Not one person out of the 18 stood up and said it was wrong. This happens today in society where someone see’s something but won’t say something because they don’t want to get involved. In this case I believe no one said something because it was a group of them so none of the boys wanted to feel like an outsider.

I was reading multiple articles not just this one on this case and the offender and offender family were blaming the victim (offender blaming) because of how she looked. They said because of the way she dressed, acted, looked and who she hung out with made them believe she was much older in her 20’s. “Ignorance of the law is no excuse”, meaning because they didn’t know her age or she didn’t look her age doesn’t mean they didn’t break the rules. In one of the articles, it can be seen that victim blaming was happening. They had blamed the cause of the incident on the victim. They said because of her age and the way she dressed made her seem older. If she didn’t dress like that or lie then that wouldn’t have happened to her. System blaming did not happen in this case. All participants in the act received the punishment according to the crime.
