The sun set on another day of suffering and misery. Le tueur de l'ombre had left devastation in its wake, and mutilated bodies littered the ground. Famine spread throughout towns and villages, leaving nothing behind. The small cottages of the poor had been destroyed, and even the homes of the opulent had not been spared.
A girl sat silently on the hill that overlooked a vast forest filled with unknown dangers. Her eyes were dull and lifeless as she stared out beyond the ravaged paltry town that she had once called home. The epidemic had not yet reached the isolated town that resided in a deep valley. The smell of carrion permeated the town as the bodies of the deceased littered the ground, slowly rotting away.
While the town had not yet been exposed to the disease, it’s residents had been besieged by amorphous creatures. These entities were able to enervate their prey before finally devouring the flesh and bones. The suffering of the people were met by a cruel and merciless death, and those who had eluded this inhumane demise were shortly killed from starvation.
The girl was one of the only remaining survivors in the town, and her life would soon be taken and his soul would reach the Underworld by the next sunrise. As she stared, patiently waiting for darkness to overtake him, a boy approached the girl. He was part of a factious group, Les Rêveurs, that was opposing Fate by rectifying mankind’s mistakes and trying to preserve the human race. Since the boy was a fervent believer in altruism, he greeted the girl. The boy was neither boorish nor ignoble and treated him with kindness, providing food and clean water. After treating the girl, he offered aegis if the girl was to return with him to a safe region that was separated from the infected lands. His care for the girl lead to her erotic feelings for him as they began their journey together.
