Reflection piece
Our group chose the topic of the Wall street crash in 1929 because it was a very important even that happened in 1929 that caused a lot of people to lose their jobs and homes. It also caused millions of people to die because they starved to death because they could make any money to buy food for themselves.
I found it interesting that it effected so many people’s lives in Canada that they thought it was going to be the end of Canada. What I also found interesting was how many people in Canada lost their jobs because of this and that there was nothing ng that these people could do to in order to cause them from not losing their jobs. Also what is very interesting about the Wall street crash in 1929 was that even though so any Canadians lost their jobs and homes because of the stocks the prime minister Robert Borden did not want to help provide work for all the people that were workless.
The Wall street crash in 1929 was such a significant event in Canadian history because millions of people to lose their home sand jobs. It also caused economic problems that made it worse on the Prairies by years of drought. You think that was bad well there was also plagues of grasshoppers and hail storms and it caused huge crop failures and made it very hard for all the farmers to grow crops. Saskatchewan sadly had to experience the lowest price for wheat in recorded history and provincial income plummet by 90% within two years which caused forcing 66% of the rural population onto relief. The rest of the western provinces were completely out of money from 1932 onwards because of all the stocks going down. Even though Ontario and Québec had a lot of unemployment, they were less extremely affected because of all their more diverse economies which helped everyone there help produced goods and services for the protected domestic market.
This event help contributes to Canada finding here identity and culture. The way it helped them find there identity and culture is that when all the provinces where having a lot of extreme problems with the stocks going down and crop failures, Ontario and Quebec where less affected because of them being a more diverse economy showing that if you have diverse economics you can all help each other through taught times.
